- Freedom to Share - A person should be allowed to make a copy of a song, a poem, or a photograph to share with others.
- Freedom to Use - You, and anyone you have shared the artistic work with, should be able to use it. They should not be limited by number of uses, time, or restricted to a single device (where others exist in the marketplace). This is why FACL does not allow works using DRM.
- Freedom to Modify - In order to build a true community, artist must be able to alter others' works, and present the new works back to the community. This basic freedom also allows people to adapt an artistic work to the needs of their project.
- Freedom to Sell - One of the freedoms that is often overlooked or misunderstood. It is imperative that an artist be allowed to ask for compensation for their work.
